Rise of Automobiles

Starting in the late eighteenth century, European engineers began tinkering with the earliest versions of automated locomotives. In the next fifty years, steam, combustion, and electrical motors had all been attempted. 

The effect of automobiles on city life has been profound. Automobiles are primarily responsible for radically changing city life. Newer and better roads are being constructed, which further increases travel throughout the nation. The suburban trend is emphasized by the fact that mobility provided by automobiles encourages business and industry to move outward to sites where land is more affordable and space is available for business. This helps in decongesting crowded areas and also ensures in a more even distribution of development.

In earlier days, people were required to live in an area which was very close to their workplace - whether office or farm. The automobile had facilitated the growth of suburbs by allowing people to live on the outskirts of the city and still be able to work in the city. The automobile industry has spawned many other industries such as highway construction and transportation. The automobile industry is thus a core sector in today’s world that directly or indirectly provides employment to millions of people.
